Após tentativas de proibições em cidades como Jundiaí (SP) e Porto Alegre (RS), e no Rio, por ação do prefeito Marcelo Crivella, o espetáculo “O Evangelho segundo Jesus, Rainha do Céu”, protagonizado pela atriz transexual Renata Carvalho, foi proibida de ser apresentada do Festival de Inverno de Garanhuns (PE), por ordem do prefeito Izaías Régis.
A programação da 28ª edição do evento, que neste ano tem como tema a liberdade, havia sido divulgado na quinta, e no dia seguinte o prefeito procurou o secretário de estadual de Cultura, Marcelino Granja, solicitando a retirada da peça da programação do evento. Diante da negativa, Régis disse que não irá ceder o Centro Cultural de Garanhuns para a apresentação.
Em nota publicada em seu site, a Câmara Municipal de Garanhuns endossa a decisão do prefeito, por entender que “a falta de respeito à religiosidade não se mostra neste momento como oportuno ou enriquecedora culturalmente aos munícipes” e que “se faz necessário que as entidades culturais respeitem o exercício da religiosidade por parte da população, pois diversos embates nascem justamente da satirização das crenças”.
