O ministro Luiz Fux, 57 anos, toma posse nesta quinta-feira (10) como o novo presidente do Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF), para um mandato de dois anos. A nova vice-presidente da Corte, pelo mesmo período, será a m inistra Rosa Weber. Fux foi eleito no dia 25 de junho, com 10 votos favoráveis e um contrário, que foi o dele próprio, já que é comum que o ministro que assumirá a presidência vote no vice. Ele assume o cargo no lugar do ministro Dias Toffoli.
Ele foi indicado pela então presidente Dilma Rousseff (PT) após a aposentadoria de Eros Grau em 2011 e chegou a assumir temporariamente quando o agora ex-presidente se licenciou por questões médicas.
Com Luiz Fux, o STF volta a ser presidido por um ministro oriundo da carreira de juiz. Diferentemente de Toffoli, Fux tem um histórico mais distante do presidente Jair Bolsonaro (sem partido) e já entrou em atrito com o presidente e os ministros militares.
Currículo
Carioca, Luiz Fux é doutor em Direito Processual Civil pela Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). Foi também na UERJ que ele se formou em Direito, em 1976, e onde lecionou a partir de 1995, quando foi aprovado em concurso público. O novo presidente da Corte está na magistratura desde 1982, depois de um curto período como promotor. Foi juiz de primeiro grau até 1997, quando se tornou desembargador. Em 2001, foi indicado ao Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ) pelo então presidente Fernando Henrique Cardoso (PSDB). Após dez anos no STJ, foi escolhido para o STF por Dilma e aprovado no Senado com 68 votos dos 70 presentes.
