O Matadouro de Petrolina que foi fechado por questões sanitárias a pedido do Ministério Público, segue sem dia certo para sua reabertura. Como antes escrevemos, a mídia de um novo matadouro, não é a verdade, é apenas a repaginada em prédio antigo, que colocará novos equipamentos. Quando o matadouro foi instalado, no local não existiam residencias, mas hoje, 40 anos depois, o lugar é totalmente habitado, o que impede que no local , segundo a Justiça, que se instale um matadouro público. A briga na Justiça continua.
Enquanto isso, os marchantes, estão com temor que aconteça algo pior: o matadouro parar nas mãos da iniciativa privada. Foi o deputado Fernando Filho que colocou a emenda para restruturação do equipamento, e foi muito bem vinda.
A classe dos que vivem da venda direta da carne acreditava, que o equipamento voltaria a funcionar nos moldes do passado pela prefeitura de Petrolina. No entanto, está virando uma grande utopia.
