Em sabatina, Campos Neto disse que autonomia do BC derrubaria juros
O patamar elevado tem incomodado o presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva e o PT, que vêm aumentando o tom das críticas à autoridade monetária.
– O presidente do Banco Central, Roberto Campos Neto, prometeu, durante sua sabatina no Senado, em fevereiro de 2019, que a aprovação da autonomia do órgão contribuiria para que os juros caíssem e a economia crescesse.
“A mudança, se aprovada por esse Parlamento, trará ganhos para a credibilidade da instituição e para a potência da política monetária, reduzindo o tradeoff [troca] de curto prazo entre inflação e atividade econômica e contribuindo para a queda das taxas de juros e o crescimento econômico”, afirmou Campos Neto.
A regra que prevê a autonomia formal do BC foi aprovada em 2021, estabelecendo mandatos fixos para o presidente e a diretoria da instituição. Desde então, houve sucessivas elevações na taxa de juros, chegando atualmente a 13,75%.
