Desencadeando uma série de acontecimentos dentro do Partido do Movimento Democrático Brasileiro (PMDB), a filiação do senador Fernando Bezerra, fez com mentes pensantes dentro da sigla, se opusessem fortemente ao nome do politico. Em Petrolina,o líder da oposição da Casa Plínio Amorim, Paulo Valgueiro, fiel escudeiro do ex-prefeito de Petrolina, já disse que não obedece a qualquer pedido de FBC, e não acatará suas orientações .
Diferente de Valgueiro, o vereador Elismar Gonçalves, que deu boas vindas ao senador, disse que é partidário, e trabalha em conjunto com o partido. Comedido, Elismar Gonçalves, prefere não inflamar a situação e ameniza quanto às críticas do seu colega de partido e de legislatura, dizendo que ele tem a opinião dele , e consequentemente existe um respeito entre os dois.“Nunca pensei que viradas politicas podiam causar tanta discórdia entre pessoas. Ultimamente meu nome tem circulado nos blogs, jornais como se eu fora o culpado por Fernando ter se filiado ao PMDB. Eu não sou o dono do Partido.Eu não tenho obsessão nenhuma por cargo. O mais importante é darmos o apoio ao que o partido determinar. Temos que dar continuidade a esse trabalho. Eu sou partidário, se todos os políticos que estão hoje nessa construção feita pelo cúpula do PMDB concordam, é claro que vou respeitar. Vou respeitar as decisões para não corrermos o risco de uma descontinuação do trabalho que o partido construiu ao longo dos anos. Ser político é saber entrar e sair, e nunca deixar portas fechadas”, disse o Vereador Elismar Gonçalves.
