O campus da Universidade de São Paulo (USP) em Ribeirão Preto anunciou que vai inaugurar o “Centro de Pesquisas em Canabinoides”. O projeto inédito no Brasil vai atuar na pesquisa e desenvolvimento de medicamentos contendo substâncias derivadas da ‘Cannabis Sativa’, conhecida popularmente como maconha. A inauguração esta prevista para até o fim de 2017.
O centro é resultado da parceria entre a USP e a indústria farmacêutica Prati-Donaduzzi. Entre as pesquisas que serão desenvolvidas no local, está o estudo clínico sobre o uso do Canabidiol (CBD). De acordo com o Jornal da USP, o teste será aplicado em cerca de 120 crianças e adolescentes com epilepsia refratária.
A comunidade científica atribui ao Canabidiol grandes benefícios terapêuticos. O professor Antonio Waldo Zuardi, coordenador do novo centro, acredita que os pesquisadores podem contribuir rapidamente com resultados que possam colaborar “com a redução de sofrimento e melhora da qualidade de vida de pacientes e suas famílias”.
